The Burgin Family Album
Fannie Elizabeth Solomon was born June 1842, and Married (#15646) James Lee Burgin Sept 21, 1859. She was a mid-wife who had no formal training as a doctor, but was very skilled at the art of healing. There were very few trained physicians in Western North Carolina at the time and Lizzie filled the void very well. Although she suffered a stroke several years before she died, she continued going wherever she was needed on horseback.
